Settings & security
Everything in one place — through the menu behind your name, top left in the conversation list.
What you can set
- Language — 28 languages to choose from, takes effect immediately, no restart.
- Find people — the same assistant as on first launch, callable again any time.
- Sounds — for messages and calls.
- Chat background — Orbit pictures, gradients or your own picture from your photos; it stays on your phone and is never uploaded. Your choice applies to all chats. For a single chat, set it in the ⋯ (iPhone) or ⋮ (Android) menu under "Chat background"; the choice for a chat takes precedence. Without a choice there is no background. "Orbit moves" turns the movement of the Orbit ring on or off (new with iPhone 0.8.8 and Android 0.9.0).
- Help — "What Orbit can do" shows the tour with pictures again, "Guide online" opens these pages. The tour appears once by itself, after sign-in or after the update (new with iPhone 0.8.8 and Android 0.9.0).
- Delivery ticks — can be turned off.
- Account — change password, delete account (with confirmation email).
- Blocked people — unblock any time.
- Manage subscription — leads to Apple's or Google's own management.
- Right at the bottom: your app's version number.
Your recovery key
When you first sign in, your encryption identity is created, and a backup of your message keys is set up in the background. Normally you won't notice: sign in on a new device and you can read your messages again within seconds.
Only when something doesn't add up — a new device, deleted storage — does the app ask for your recovery key. That's a one-time code shown when you first set up your account. Keep it somewhere only you know about — a password manager, for example. Without it, a new device can only read new messages, not old ones.
Confirming a second device
When you sign in on another device, you can confirm each other via emoji comparison — both devices show the same symbols, and you confirm that they match.
