Get the app
The iPhone app is in the App Store, the Android app on Google Play. If you use Android without the Play Store, you can download the app directly here.
What this version can do today — and what it cannot
You create an account or sign in, and you stay signed in after closing the app. You read and write messages — every one of them end-to-end encrypted. You send pictures, videos, files and voice messages, create groups, verify a second device, set a profile picture, report and block people who bother you, and delete your account yourself whenever you want. Under My contacts you can see at the tap of a button who from your address book is already here — only email addresses are checked, and nothing is stored. Voice calls work between two people. The app speaks 28 languages.
What is still missing: video calls. And while the app is closed, your phone stays quiet when new messages arrive — we are working on that; on iPhone it already runs in the test version.
If something breaks, please tell us: [email protected].
Android
When you open the file, Android will ask whether you want to install an app from this source. That is exactly as it should be — your phone is supposed to ask. You allow it once, for the browser you downloaded with.
Your phone may warn you that it does not know this app. That is because the app is new and few people use it yet, not because anything is wrong with it. The warning goes away over time.
How to check the file really comes from us
Because this app does not come from the Play Store, Google does not check it for you. So we publish the fingerprint of our signature. Anyone downloading an app from outside a store should be able to compare such a value — and with us, you can.
SHA-256 of our signature:
F8:84:5E:B6:87:B8:D1:46:C0:2B:90:B4:F4:E9:53:A3:C3:E6:5D:E5:4F:ED:F7:FA:EE:D8:9C:4B:FF:9E:A8:3A
Issued to BOP BLUEOCEAN PRIVACY LTD. Every later version carries the same signature — if a file shows a different value, it is not from us.
iPhone
The app is available directly in the App Store for iPhone — no need to go via this page.
Windows
Windows has had a programme for a while. It is the web client in its own window.
How you get new versions
Because the app does not come from a store, nobody will tell you when something new arrives. Just come back to this page — the current version is always here. You can install it over the old one without deleting anything first; you stay signed in.
